So the lovely seminar program that we are in treated us to a fun little trip to Philadelphia this weekend. Free vacation? We ain't complainin.
So we had to be out to the bus at 7:50 am! Anything before ten o'clock in the morning is quite a struggle for me. You could say I'm not a morning person, Kurt does.
Our bus pulled up to this cute little building in Valley Forge. This is where we stayed on Friday. It was cute, but old.
After we got settled into our rooms, we went on a tour around Valley Forge with this cute little man as our tour guide. He knew EVERYTHING about Valley Forge. He was a history teacher for 38 years! The mounds that the soldiers built in case they were to get attacked.
It was raining (of course) like crazy!
The cabins that they stayed in. They had up to 12 people staying in one cabin! He also said that more people died here then any battle during the revolution.
This was an oven that they used.
This place was beautiful!
George Washington's place. Headquarters.
We went inside and the railing up the stairs was actually the original. So yes we really did touch the same railing George Washington had once touched. I guess I was so amused by it that I didn't get a picture of the railing. Regrets regrets.
Cute couple right? :)
We ended the tour at the Washington memorial church. (I'm guessing on the name hah we both couldn't really remember what is was called. But thats what we are thinking it is.)
The next day we left Valley Forge (again.. EARLY) And went out to see some historic sights in Philadelphia. (Behind us, Independence Hall)
The "unknown soldier" grave.
After we saw some sights in the morning, we went the National Constitutional Center. So we both like museums, but I am SO glad we both feel the same way about them. We love to see everything and go to a museum, but we can not stay too long in them. Not saying its a bad thing to spend for ever in a museum. I'm just glad we are both on the same page with them.
Interesting conversation.
Pondering.
Some would call us dorks, we prefer well-rounded individuals with an entertaining lifestyle.
Went and saw the Liberty Bell. Did you know there is a crack in it?!
We almost left with the people standing in front of us in line once they discovered there was a crack in it. Hah people crack me up.
Yep, he is my new friend.
Off to lunch.
Philly Cheesesteaks?
No thanks.
I am definitely not a fan of these. Grease dripping off of the paper the sandwich was on. If I was to die from food, I would choose something a little more enjoyable.
But hey its just one of those things you have got to try.
After lunch we went with a group of friends to continue sight seeing.
Benjamin Franklin's grave. They were charging $2 a person to get into the cemetery. But the grave was right next to the fence, so we just admired it from outside. Does anyone know why people throw money on the grave? We were trying to figure it out, but nobody knew. If you happen to know, please tell us.
After his grave, we went to the house of Betsy Ross. But again I forgot to take a picture. We only saw the gift shop though. We didn't want to pay to get a tour.
We then went and got Ice cream at a place called "Franklins Fountain".
Don't worry, we did not wait in this line. We got there right before the line started. The line was curving around the corner when we left.
We heard their sundaes were amazing! We were dumb and got milk shakes. But our friends got a sundae and said it was awesome. So if you ever go there get a sundae! They are super expensive. But they are big enough for two people.
(The pictures of ice cream are downloaded from the internet. We did not take pictures.)
This is a sign we passed. We're thinkin they should have worded it a little different.
We ended the day with a tour through Independence Hall. This was super cool.
The Original "Rising Sun Chair"

We left Philadelphia around six. And we all crashed (fell asleep, the bus did not crash) on the way home.
